Jef Fisk

Jef has a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the use of information technology to enhance business opportunities, based on 35 years of experience in manufacturing and public sector organizations. In addition, Jef managed material control, procurement and continuous improvement activities in an automotive manufacturing organization for several years.

Starting his career in 1979 at Federal-Mogul Corporation as an entry level software developer in the Worldwide Marketing division, Jef quickly moved through the ranks at Federal-Mogul to become a plant data processing manager after 6 years. During this assignment, the plant organization selected and implemented a new Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) system, including a new data center and network, providing an opportunity to learn the IT infrastructure side of the business and to gain a deep understanding of the benefits of technology in a manufacturing environment.

In 1990, Jef became the Director of Information Services for Davis Industries, Inc., a privately held, first tier automotive supplier in the Detroit area. Jef managed IT systems and IT infrastructure for Davis' 4 locations and the corporate headquarters, gaining experience in managing needs for multiple locations and implementing ERP, network and telephone systems for two of the sites as green sites. During his tenure at Davis, Jef also assumed responsibilities for managing the material control, procurement and continuous improvement departments and participated in the company's team during a special, concessionary renegotiation of the company's contract with the UAW.

Jef moved on to a much larger organization in 1996 when he became CIO for the Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan (Wayne County Circuit Court). Responsible for the Civil and Criminal courts and the Friend of the Court (child support enforcement) for Wayne County, MI, Jef also managed the merger of two other courts into the Third Judicial Circuit during Michigan's court reform initiative. During this time, Jef also managed significant improvements for the court's systems to avoid issues with Y2K and participated in task forces to leverage technology in the county's criminal justice efforts.

From 1999 to 2014, Jef has been Director of Information Technology (CIO) for Kaiser Aluminum, managing IT systems and infrastructure through Chapter 11 reorganization as well as several acquisitions and divestitures. During this time Jef was responsible for several implementations and upgrades of systems for ERP, maintenance management, financial management and integration with "shop floor" components as well as major IT infrastructure enhancements. Following emergence from Chapter 11, Kaiser leveraged Jef's expertise in the risk management area including Sarbanes Oxley compliance.

Jef became a Principal at Sycamore and Company in 2014. He is a past-president and board member for the Society for Information Management (Detroit Chapter), is a Governing Body member for the CIO Leadership Network and has taught graduate courses in IT management at Lawrence Technological University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wayne State University and an MBA from Michigan State University.
